There are actual tangible & intangible evidences that there are deliberate efforts aiming at keeping the developing countries as they are or allowing, at best, a progress that proceeds at a sluggish pace.
You may join a 3rd world university , equipped with scores of research ideas, to find out that you cannot do anything unless you become associated with a certain grouping. Accepting this "slavery" is a pre-condition before you are provided with resources that open the gates for research & educating others to carry out research.
Conducting research or educational research has to move you up. However, high posts & high titles are reserved or booked for specific persons excluding you. Consequently, a gifted scholar is left with two "bitter" options: either to migrate or to stay in the country whilst keeping the research ideas "frozen". In several 3rd world countries, I observed both cases.
The chief contributor is "corruption".
African leaders for the habit of stealing collective wealth of all and deposit them in foreign accounts. I will send some formal literature to you.

A very big concern for such a researcher is cultural competence!!! It must not be neglected to obtain the fair interpretation of findings
In my view, issues of capacity (human capital) and resources have much weight.
The challenges include;
Poor coordination;
Lack of facilities;
Low capacity building;
Lack of networking;
Poor environmental influence;
Lack of supports.
There is a book called transcultural healthcare written by one of my professors, she is an expert in cultural competence as am i as that is what my research is about. Her surname is Papadopoulos, please buy or get it from a library she writes on the urgent need for researchers to be culturally competen/appropriate when carrying out research in other countries so as to not only be respectful of participants but to gain a good understanding of how the nuances of different cultures shape the participants and the outcome. It curbs ones biases, enables us to assist participants to engage in the research and ensures that the analysis of results is fair and without prejudice. Above all the research courses do not let us to be capable in this sphere ,
the other point is the profssors mentality, this is ment only for them .

Thanks for sharing thoughts. Same mentality is here too. Academic scope for learning research is not easy to grab. What about the community perception? How do people perceive research as career?
