If you use free software I would strongly recommend you U-CARE and E-SURGE (http://www.cefe.cnrs.fr/biostatistiques-et-biologie-des-populations/logiciels). These are good general software for multievent capture-recapture models and for goodness-of-fit test of general models. Good luck!

Many excellent suggestions. In addition, I've found it to be especially important to first be clear on what the question you want to ask is first. There are lots of R packages tailored to movement analyses (as you see in previous posts), but there are even more packages that do a good job of implementing generic analyses (circular statistics, hidden Markov models, random effects models, etc) that can be more relevant to the question at hand than what many of these packages have to offer.

For circular statistics (when analyzing movement directions), you may wish to use these two R packages:

At this momenti I'm still trying to study the "friendship" between groups of Flamingoes. So, filter groups of individuals traveling together. The main difficult is because the data are constituted from observation of rings (repeat, not satellitar radio-tracking, that are as continue tracks). But the positive note is the fact that we have a lot of data!

We extracted, using Visual basic programmation, the matrix with each individual and the number of times that this individuals were sighted toghether to any other individuals.

In any way I can learn a lot from precedent posts...

I don't know if you think the incorporation of effect of climate change on the distribution or routes of migrations. Biomove package could be useful if you consider this idea:

As Leo Polansky said, it depends on your questions, but something like the biased random bridge method in adehabitatHR might help - it creates a probable path of movement between two successive location points, using a random walk biased towards the direction of the next known location. The analysis can account for missing locations (which is kind of what you have) so this may help. You need at least 200 observations (per individual) for this to work, but if you don't have this a similar analysis using the Brownian bridge kernel (also adehabitatHR) or something similar may help. I would recommend reading the vignettes for the adehabitat packages - they are well written and explain a number of different methods.

Have you tried social network analysis, for example with package igraph?

A lot of great answers already here, but figured I would put my thoughts on it as well.

- The program Rmark brings together R and MARK (http://www.phidot.org/software/mark/rmark/), which is a popular software for mark-recapture models.

- I agree with Richard, given your data types, social network analysis could be really beneficial and interesting. For an example from the marine realm, take a look at:

Maybe, you could consider Surge software for CR data which is more flexible than Mark, especially if working with multi event data (E-Surge). However, as far as I know there is no R package for this program.
