I'm afraid there is no such "best" method. Only the "most suitable" method exists. You have to choose the criterion based on your own problem considering the purpose, computational cost, and so on. The Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion mentioned by Kharfi is a good way, but I don't know if it will fit your problem. Good luck!
