Want to learn about factor analysis so that I can use in in health research like choice of important questions from a big list and other. But the first step is to input the variables in correct way. Please let me know it if possible.
For factor analysis data entry in SPSS is not different than you do for other analysis. However, for data reduction through factor analysis, theoretical grounding of the variables are essential. Do not leave that choice to the software. You will definitely get some tables generated, but may not be very useful.

Factor analysis is an art as well as science. So please see the theoretical settings for the research under consideration. The attachment may be of some use.

Chapter A note on the Factor Analysis in Forestry Sciences
Check out the following prior to doing Factor analysis:
We have a set of questions to understand behavioural /attitudinal perceptions in interval scale
Minimum number of samples. though there is no hard and fast rule regarding this, a thumb rule states that the number of samples must at least be five times the number of items (questions) identified to explain the concept
Negative questions are reverse coded, while entering data into SPSS
Do KMO and Bartlett test for spericity (KMO value must be above 0.7 to ensure the sampling adequacy and Sphericity measure (CHi-square)should be statistically significant.
