What are the basic differences between the optoelectronic simulation software?

It is clear that any simulation software, designed for a specific purpose,to get an easier and more powerful and more accurate simulation, in that particular field.For example, to simulate the photonic crystal devises , the best software, is Rsoft.

In your opinion, other softwares, such as "Matlab", " comsol" , "optisystem", "next nano", "Lumerical","optifdtd", "opispice" and Etc. , are appropriate to simulate what types of optical devices ?
