hi i am thinking of doing RNA-seq on cells that are mechanically compressed. but before i do that, i have been advised to maybe look at RT-PCR for some genes first. what are some good genes whose expression might be altered upon mechanical compression stress?

I recommend looking into the focal adhesion kinase pathway (FAK) (even FAK expression levels)

I agree with Steven aSMA and focal adhesion genes like FAK or vinculin, potentially. However, what type of cells are you looking at? This may also dictate what type of genes to assess.
I would recommend doing a microarray study first and then confirming the hits that you get by qPCR.
