I was really busy with some others work on this week so that I did not much involved on RG forum. My RG score was decreased. It's terrible experience for me and discourage on RG score calculation method.
this is the principal problem of RG score, the calculation of the score is based on interaction, pricipally recomendation between researchers not based on publication or citations

Over the last month, each week my scores went down but throughout that time my readers and recommendations went up and on two instances doubled. I was similarly appalled because it made no sense. One week I got almost 3000 readers, true not as much as many others, and 250 recommendations and went down by several points. I also received an achievement award. I hate to say it, but it does affect you. I wonder if RG is not manipulating some of us!
The RG score is a combination of citations, publications, interaction with other researchers (recommendations), etc. The exact algorithm is undeclared but reads do not count for much.
Dear Sivanathan Sivaruban and Stanley Wilkin I completely agree and raised this issue with the RG folks via an email. Their response was that they have a weighting scheme for all components, PLUS, your score is relative to other RG users. If others outscored you, then your score goes down. Somewhat similar to the idea of scoring student exams on a normal curve.
Fine, Gulzar, but I'm not sure I believe them. My recommendations, silly as they are, were for highest recommendations in my institution. Unfortunately, of course I might actually be the only one on RG from my institution, but nevertheless it goes against simple comparison.
The RG scoring criteria is only known to the RG team. If you have a high number of publications and citations, then you can achieve a fixe score that can only go up through your interaction, recommendations, and readership. I have no idea how they calculate it!
I observe that the RG score projected on the basis of the graphical profile considered for last 5 weeks as a unit. If graph of reads and recommendations are increasing from past weeks, the score accelerates other wise opposite.
I don't understand that clearly too. But after all, is it of such a crucial importance? Why?. For me it is a bit silly to answer or recommend questions that have nothing to do with science, just to get additional points...
You should not be worried about this. Your publications, citations, and recommendations have a fixed score. The rest of the scores are based on your followers and your interaction. Your score might have reduced because some of your followers unfollowed you.
Again-the answers, although not solely directed towards me, actually don't follow what I am saying. My followers increase each day. My recommendations increase each week (except last when my score went up again-!!!!!?????), everything increased but my score went in the other direction.
Not really concerned Gulzar. The point is why? I think we all here like to function within an acceptable rationale but if there isn't apparently one......
And I appropriate the updates; Good for the beginners. (by reading the variety of research work one can gain more idea and knowledge about the several studies, and in regard, his/her RG score will encourage him/her to interact on regular basis)
I think they work like this: there are several benchmarks. Sivanathan was on the cusp of 9 and he was deliberately forced back in order to put even more energy into RG. Other benchmarks might be 15 and 20. I cannot be sure. But when someone is on the cusp they will inexplicitly fall back. The whole point again is for each person to increase involvement, even if they exhibit high level involvement.
Of late increases have been very limited. Last week I did not see any change on my score and this week was 0.03 increase! I will up the effort but sometimes it is discouraging.
Please don't give your heart to the RG score otherwise it may demoralize you. Focus on the benefits here and just be a loyal RG member. Everything will fall into its rightful place. Kind regards
My RG score also decreased a little, but never mind, I enjoy in RG experience in my free time... This score is not one of the important ones in our academic and professional life in Serbia...
Truly I think this a big problem. Happened with me also, as my score was declined too!!!!! In spit of high producing process for many of reactions, recommendations, questions, answers, & followers. Anyhow I am really surprise for this discrepancy. ...??
I have experienced such before for up to 0.3. It may be devastating sometimes, we should not let it discourage us but rather make us learn more on this platform. The RG platform surpasses it score mechanism- the unrealistic and unfounded algorithm.
My score also decreased. But I really don't know that how it can decreased. Because my recommendations count was high then previous week, reads were also good. then too i don't know how it can decreased.
I observe that the RG score projected on the basis of the graphical profile considered for last 5 weeks as a unit. If graph of reads and recommendations are increasing from past weeks, the score accelerates other wise opposite.
When you add answer to a question, floated by some RG member. If that member delete that question, you score will decrease. If you delete your own question with some read/recommendations/answers, there is decrease in score.
If you are inactive for a few days, there is decrease in RG score also.
If you use RG as your routine, there will be increase.
Further, always ask questions, answer question, follow work of other research & researchers, you will enjoy increase in RG score. But it is difficult to maintain increase in such activities.
I am not busy, and have uploaded new article, certificate, questions, answers, good number of new followers, high percent of recommend and recommendations RG activities the last week. .... But, it is a puzzling matter ....!?..!?..!?.
All activities and events that increase scores have been completed, but it has been observed that these scores have decreased, and this situation is common among many colleagues. The problem lies exclusively in the RG assessment and evaluation system. Therefore, it is proposed to abolish the grading system and the platform is treated like the rest of the scientific sites. The platform deals with colleagues (mostly university professors) as students waiting for the evaluation grade at the end of each week.
I have experienced this decrease in RG score, despite new citations, more recommendations and new reads. Although I am interested the RG activities, most of us are busy with other activities as well.
Here is the RG Community Supports' answer to this question:
Thanks for getting in touch. As the RG Score is a dynamic score, such fluctuations are normal. Please note that the RG Score is also a relative score. This means that it takes the scores and interactions of every researcher into account when producing a relative rating of your contributions. For example, if your contributions are less than the average of all users that week, your RG Score could decrease or remain constant.
To improve your RG Score, ask a question or give another researcher a helpful answer. Share anything from negative results to raw data or full-fledged publications. If it's of worth to the community, your peers will likely give you feedback, and this will factor into your RG Score. Connect with others, contribute high-quality content, and your score will rise.
There is no clear principles that used for RG scores, sometimes the same activities in different weeks have different response for RG including decrease in RG scores, but I think the benefits of RG not deal with scores but with new scientific relationships and cooperation among members.
Take it from the horse's mouth, says @Mohammad Mehdizadeh . The RG score is based on daily regular interaction with peers; sharing work, asking questions and providing high-quality answers.
What is unfair in this scoring system is that members often have heavy schedules and it is not always possible to access the net daily and provide quality interaction. Here in Libya, we have another problem of internet access; the frequent electricity cuts resulting from sabotage to power stations.
i observe that RG score increasing by increase number of readers and communication with researches by ask questions and answers, not dependent just on articles and citations
For the non active members uploading very high impact journal publications can increase your score rapidly with little or no interactions on this platform.
It is a common phenomenon on this platform. Just few ones have not experienced such decrease but the most important part of this platform is not the RG score but the knowledge sharing, gaining insights, methodologies, collaborative research possibilities, learning process among other great features on this platform.
Let's look beyond the score and continuing gaining insight to how to contribute and expand the frontier of knowledge on our area of research.
I fully agree that RG provides a useful platform for sharing research ideas etc. But I am concerned that priprints are not given due scores. Moreover, their feedback from colleagues is mostly uncostructive, ie. appeasing words of praise that are sent automatically by clicking on a particular wording.
Basically What RG Score indicates and what is the actual use of this. I think interaction between different researchers for sharing their idea should have the most propriety. This is my personal opinion
