What advice or tips do you have for those who are studying to teach English, or who are just beginning?
I would advise new EFL teachers to get to know the culture and customs of their students. EFL teachers who do this will be easily accepted and have many more opportunities to teach English in formal and informal settings.
I would advise new EFL teachers to consider that they are very privileged. TEACHERS (including EFL teachers) CAN PROVIDE GUIDANCE, MODELING, ENTHUSIASM, CHOICE, SINCERE PRAISE, ATTENTION FOCUSING, RELEVANCE, CONFIDENCE BUILDING, and SATISFACTION. All this goes a long way to motivate our students.
Start from the beginning, do not assume that all your learners have a comprehensive background of the language and always remember that you have a diverse classroom and some of your learners may perhaps not be first speakers of the language. In that way you will be a able to teach English successfully.
