I would recommend Microsoft Kinect. The newly improved Kinect Xbox one has additional features to track the depth of the body, hand and even fingers more precisely and gives the response back. Tiny objects tracing are made possible and return a fine tune of tracking capabilities. It also got a wider field of view and gives a clean data quickly.

Another fascinating feature of the Kinect sensing device in Xbox One stems from its infrared sensor, which can identify objects in a completely darkened room. It can recognize people and track bodies even without any light visible to the naked eye. It can identify a hand pose from four meters away, see the fingers of a child, and remember your identity even minus room illumination.

I will support Michael. I have worked with Microsoft kinect and pointgrey's bumblebee stereo camera. For this specific application, my vote will go to kinect. The reasons are well explained by Michael already. But be careful about the blind areas and the limitated depth resolution of Kinect.
