VR and AR Technologies (e.g., HMDs) is a billion dollar industry. Today, VR/AR technologies like HMDs (e.g., Vive, Rift) are commonplace in homes within the U.S. (and other places worldwide). Children have access to these technologies for entertainment, educational activities etc. At what age, do you think it is appropriate for children to access such technologies? Should there be an age restriction?
I would like to know your opinions.
Children are in growth age and there are serious concerns that VR headsets may damage eyesight. VR is not recommended for use by children < 13 years of age

In addition, fully immersion may manipulate the cognitive skills of younger children. If a 7 years old child jump from top of a tall building in VR Game, and he just suffers motion sickness, there is significant chance that he tries to repeat this experience that in real life too.
I think the 13 years minimum age is enough.
Thanks for sharing Amir. There is so much to understand and study from these technologies from the physical to psychological factors, that could impact kids. In effect, this also applies to cell phone use.
Most of the hardware manufacturers have an average age limit of around 13 years, but the research community has a divided thought on restricting children from VR/AR exposure.
According to a post at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, "There is no reason to be concerned that VR headsets will damage eye development, health or function. Age limitations for VR technology might make sense for content, but as far as we know this technology poses no threat to the eyes”.
Also, a study published by the American Journal of Ophthalmology states that children didn't experience postural instability, and also did not experience discomforts post-exposure when compared to adults.
There really is a need for extensive research in this area to coming up with strict guidelines and restrictions.

The VR devices are getting smaller, lighter, and more portable, potentially becoming more friendly to children. However, the content delivered by the media should be one of the main conditions to the question. The applications or games that involve extreme motion, severe light change, or long time usage are not suitable for young children.
