Dear Research community:

I am conducting a validation of a FFQ against 3 days 24h recalls and I need help with the nutrient content of the lines of the FFQ that represent multiple foods.

For example, the line representing Pizza consumption must contain the vegetarian, with chicken topping or meat topping types of pizza. Such information is usually extracted from prior surveys conducted on the population of interest, from national surveys.

In my study, I initially used data of a 1 day 24h recall nationwide survey done some years ago. This survey however was conducted only on women and children. Moreover, the data generated from this survey is not subtle enough as there is no Food composition table for the composite foods specific to the country so other food composition tables of neighboring countries were used. Although the data from this original survey can provide an idea on the most frequent foods to compile in one specific line of the FFQ, would it be possible to use the data from the 3 days 24h recalls that I conducted to validate the FFQ.

For example, the frequency of consumption of different types of Pizza (Vegetarian, with chicken topping or meat topping) is available in the 3 days 24h recalls survey conducted for the validation of the FFQ, but not in the 1 day survey conducted nationwide. Is it feasible to use the 3 days 24h recall data to inform the different foods to include in the lines of the FFQ that represent many foods? I have not encountered a similar situation in the literature.

Thank you, research community for any insight.
