Countries where capripoxvirus infections have been reported, prefer to use sheep pox vaccine for controlling LSDV infection due to cross-protection within the Capripoxvirus genus. However, there are some vaccines (lumpyvax, herbivac LS) for LSD that are produced by using LSDV strains. You can get more information from a paper entitled "Characterization of sheep pox virus vaccine for cattle against lumpy skin disease virus".
In my opinion, first you have to sure that SPPV vaccine is ineffective for protection cattle against LSD, then you can use LSDV vaccine for cattle, and SPPV vaccine for small ruminants in same country. Vaccine studies are important for giving this decision.
GPPV vaccine is effective against LSDV. In the non endemic country GPPV could be more effective than LSDV vaccine for LSDV. Due to they are 97% genetically similar. We get good result practically.
