Using the irradiation to treat BMT (bone marrow transplantation) patients what will happen to the APCs or the immune cells reside in the tissues (DC in the thymus or ^^)?
Will the new bone marrow replace the whole immune or blood system?
I would add that some APC are long lived and can persist a very long time after transplantation.
And there is also the possibility of host cells acquiring APC-like properties in certain situations, explaining why the allogeneic reaction between host APC and donor immune cells can still occur a long time after transplantation (and generate complications like chronic GvHD).
