I want to request for your opinion about the current work I am doing in road hazard detection. I am using imaging as well as accelerometer-based detection for road hazard detection.
The following road conditions are detected by Image Classifier crack, Rutting, bump, Pothole, Separation, Crosswalk blur. The following road conditions are detected by Accelerometer Classifier crack, bump, Pothole, dirt road, rough road. In The real-life road experiment is shown in the pdf attached at the time instance the accelerometer detected the road condition as pothole whereas the image detected a crack on road.
I want to request for your opinion to understand what are the potential uses of using both image and accelerometer sensor is useful for road monitoring development.

These techniques can be used in testing the roads. However, one needs to formulate performance parameter that can be used to judge the quality of the road. Specially the camera can be used to alert the driver about serious hazards in the road in the right time. Acceleration sensor may not be used for real time alert.

Hey Varun, this is very interesting. It has been a long time desire for me to overlay such "road quality" data on top of google maps. Google map shows real-time traffic (colour coded), shortest route (distance-time), elevation, drive time, routes (walk, car, bike, bus, train, ferry). But it does not show a quantified information on the quality of road. For example, distance between A to B by car through a particular route may be small, but the road quality is poor.
