A look at the current literature suggets only a handful of work being done on Usibor 1500 to Al 5XXX/6XXX alloy welding. The results available also indicate poor mechanical properties.

Why is welding of Ultra high-strength steels like Usibor 1500 to automotive grade Al alloys so difficult. Any comments would be useful.

It maybe mainly because of the brittle intermetallic compounds (IMCs) formed at the interface of the Steel-Al welds which deteriorates the strength of the weld joint.
