Can Trichogramma chilonis effectively control Chilo infuscatellus in sugarcane fields where most of the days in summer temperature exceeds than 40 degree centigrade. any experience in this regard?
Are you interested in pheromones? Here in Spain we have controlled Chilo suppressalis in a very effective manner using mating disruption. I guess that this technology could be used for C. infuscatellus too. Please contact me if you are interested.
very expensive approach considering the price of sugarcane. Moreover i think mating disruption is not that effective when will be applied in scattered blocks of crop because of moth flights from untreated adjacent fields. am i right?
Hi Rizwan. it depends on how bigs are the plots, and how scattered. On the other hand, release of Trichogramma is generally more expensive than pheromone. The problems of invasive gravid females is happening on biological control too, specially if the neighbour plots are treated and low populated in natural enemies. All depends on figures. It would be nice if we can discuss this in a deeper conversation. Do you use Skype?
