Oh, interesting question! Do you mean how to distinguish a tourist from a usual citizen by spatio-temporal pattern?

Suppose that yo have a map of a city/country and a trajectory (path in time) for 2 people. You also have objects of touristic interest on the map, like museums, monuments, waterfalls, places to make photos of nice objects, etc. If some trajectory passes close to many of those points, this path is likely to belong to a tourist. If we observe a path village to city and back, this is likely to be worker-commuter. But if you see a path circulating near one of tourist objects for the whole day - this is likely to be a  criminal trying to rob a tourist.

In my opinion you can define the main gradients in the area using direct and/or indirect ordination analysis. After, the species that do not show any correlation with any gradient could be considered not resident, therefore tourist species...

Hi José Antonio, although this answer probably arrives too late, "tourist species" in a given ecosystem may be identified through longitudinal studies. In particular, you can compare the cumulative alpha diversity (which depends on the arrival of new species) in a given ecosystem vs. punctual alpha diversity (i.e. the number of species at time i). In other words, temporal beta diversity (i.e. cumulative alpha/punctual alpha) can provide some clues about the identity of "tourist species", i.e. those species that arrive stochastically at the sampling site (e.g. caused by mass effect, geographical position, etc.), but that do not reproduce in it.
