Loss reduction is basically achieved due to optimal control of current flow through the line because the loss depends on the amount of current flowing, not its direction. So, irrespective of direction, loss can be controlled.

Bidirectional property is helpful in proper distribution of power across two load areas with excess power being feed to on-demand zones, which helps in maintaining system stability.
