To what extent, are we compromising Darcy’s law, when we characterize the oil/gas flow within a petroleum reservoir?

Does the fundamental physics associated with the Darcy’s law not change significantly while applying it for the above application?

Darcy’s law requires that any resistance to the flow through a porous medium should result only from the viscous stresses induced by a single-phase, laminar, steady flow of a Newtonian fluid under isothermal conditions within an inert, rigid and homogeneous porous medium.
