As we all know that the field data is our most trustful data and scientists use it for comparision with other methods. Shear wave velocity VS30 is the main parameter for estimation of seismic site-conditions. We often get differences in estimation of shear velocity using different field methods at the same sites. in comaprision, geotechnical data also leads to another error in our VS30?

In the following reference, a comparison of two field methods SASW (Spectral analysis of surface wave) and measured VS30 in boreholes (DH) are done.

Brown, T. L., Boore M. D., and Stokoe II H. K., (2002), “Comparison of Shear-Wave Slowness Profiles at 10 Strong-Motion Sites from Noninvasive SASW Measurements and Measurements Made in Boreholes”

The comparison shows that the mean error between both field methods reach 40 m/s. The maximum error in estimation of SASW and DH methods is about 80 m/s for SVA site. Both methods show difference in knowing site-class type 3 out of 10.

The main question what to do to improve accuracy in estimation of Vs30 shear velocity?
