I wonder if anyone has used tissue microarray pre-cast paraffin blocks and punching pen and would recommend it for using instead of using specialised equipments ??
I came across 2 manufacturers; Tissue Microarray Mold kits from Ted Pella and Tissue-Tek Quick-Ray from Sakura. Anyone used any one of them and would share your experience will be greatly appreciated.

The tissue microarray is good for molecular pathology works as multiple samples can be probed at a time. I have used it several times for immunohistochemistry. Similarly it will be helpful for insitu hybridization and similar works. I used to identify the tissue of interest from the paraffin block by looking into an H& E section. Then it can be easily punched out and blocked.While microtomy,we should be very cautious to avoid folding.

Seconding the approach of K. Sujathan I'd like to show you an image of a punching device I made by myself in "earlier" years (when I was requested by some colleague to re-embed special locations / areas in a paraffin block for further TEM-processing followed by electron microscopic observation & analysis. The "neat extraction tool" (edit: click into the image to enlarge view!) consists of an ordinary "skin biopsy punch", the sharp-edged sheet-metal delicately has been provided with a small 'slit' (by using a small metal saw as shown) - in order to retract easily the roundish tissue block as punched out by means of pushing it out with an ordinary dissecting needle....
