The benefit of turning on U.V is less effective during the solidification of media. Its is highly preferred to urgently cover the lid of media plate as it solidifies, the chances of contamination will be completely negligible if hot media is directly poured into the Petridish and half open the lid, as its near to solidification cover the lid completely and place it upwards down. hope you will have got your answer.
Like Tejal suggested, the UV light has the potential for surface sterilisation of your media. However, you need to carefully monitor your plate preparation technique (pouring and solidification of your media in the plates) as it could be easily contaminated if not properly done.
As Tejal and Lukamn said UV light is for surface sterilization, immediately we can't close the plate, it will result in moisture condensation in lid surface, so after pouring of media keep the half closed plates under UV for some time, until solidification. As per my knowledge UV won't affect culture substances.
