How is writing thesis different from writing a paper?
There are differences between the two. Key differences include:
Depth - writing a thesis is only viable after you'd completed a significant in-depth research contributing to knowledge whereas writing a paper can be on certain hot topics, the latest topics or topics of interest to readers.
Breadth - thesis writing generally cover wider scope e.g. numerous constructs or various methodologies etc. whereas paper writing usually focus on fewer constructs or specific methodology. E.g. some authors prefer to break down their thesis into few papers to be published.
Time taken - thesis writing needs more time to plan & complete vs paper writing as shared by Nuril above.
No. of Pages - Hundreds of pages are required in a thesis whereas only few or tens of pages are needed in a paper / article.
Rigor - thesis demand rigorous research with empirical evidence whereas some papers are only focusing on ideas generation, literature review or conceptual papers.
Hello. In my opinion, thesis writing and paper writing are not same, but have similarity in certain part.
My point is, if you write a thesis, you need to focus and make a deep research around your field. But, if you write a paper, you just need to 'take it easy' - write a certain part of your thesis- only.
In term of time, writing a paper should be take a less time than thesis. In my experience, I can write a paper for my conference around five days only. Paper writing naturally often around five to ten pages, so it should take less time than thesis.
That's all my answers. Hopefully it can help you. Thank you.

in my point of view thesis writing is different from writing paper in that:
thesis cover more points in a topic with an in depth knowledge and and because it is a large quantity of information it needs to be written in large number of papers.
Papers are sometimes tilled from the theses. Thesis are more comprehensive in its writing than research papers. Thesis is written in chapters while most papers follow the scientific IMRAD structure.
Thesis is a total write up of any time bound academic research, but publication (not review article) is a limited area based presentation of research result with analysis.
