Hypothermia is neuroprotection a method. It has long been studied in patients with cerebral ischemia. The use of hypothermia has proven its effectiveness in numerous experiments on animal models. Unfortunately, randomized clinical trials have not confirmed the efficacy of hypothermia in patients with ischemic brain damage. Despite this, the use of hypothermia has proven itself in patients with cardiac arrest and anoxic CNS damage in newborns. Day2 and day4 after surgery with vessel sacriface. Seems does not to reduse ischemic volume but reduces the intracranial pressure...
Literature says hypothermia in traumatic brain injury, intracranial pressure elevation, stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, spinal cord injury, hepatic encephalopathy, and neonatal peripartum encephalopathy is useful
Shalendra Singh Hi! "useful" but do not improve outcome exept anoxia in newborns and cardiac arrest. Many randomised trials were faild to show outcome improvement in stroke and trauma patients
It is possible, with a good chance that this is the case, to hypothesize that this is correct: Hypothermia decreases the basal metabolism, its effects can be similar (according to many authors) to an induced coma and, in addition and among many other things, it generates a vasoconstriction that is helpful in these cases.
