It seems to me that Goethe's works on physical questions are overrated by some historians today. Even his scientific contemporaries did not take them seriously. To make a connection with the theory of relativity would be very audacious, if not absurd.

Goethe supposed himself to know more about colours than Newton. Today we know Newton was right, Goethe was definitive wrong. The interessting question in a philosophic sense touches the theory of cognition or epistemology. The point is: we all guess to know what is colour, because we handle with it continous in every days live. But if You want to measure colour by deviating it from a measured spectrum of electric magnetic wave You have to calculate fare away from Your everydays intuition. So colour-science is a good example for contraintuitive calculating and thinking.
