We know oligodendrocytes need increased number of ATP due to its function on myelin formation. Similarly neurons transmit the impulses. Both need energy and decrease supply of energy may cause apoptosis. However, I am interested to know the basal metabolic rate of these cells/neurons. Is there anyone knows or any paper that showed the baseline of energy metabolism of glial cells such as oligodendrocytes and neurons?

Thank's for asking this question, Monokesh Kumer Sen. I no less wondered why the cerebral white matter has consistently been found to have a far lower blood perfusion and vascular density than cortex/basal ganglia - while oligodendrocytes are said to be earlier affected by ischemia or hypoxia than even the cerebral neurons.
More than an oligodendrocyte's location necessitate the length and number of its myelin sheath extentions as well a the comparable properties of a neuron different metabolic demands.
It was marvelous if anyone responded competently to your questions ... in considering also the enormous differences in the firing sequences of the different neurons, and above all in envisaging the changes in the metabolic demands of oligodendrocytes between their mere maintenance and their multiplication and reformation of severed myelin sheath after tissue shearing, edema, or in all sorts of intoxications and infections.
I would be as grateful for any concrete data on the given points as you might be.
