Hmmm, polemic question, because is asked about influential persons. Up to now, most of readers have been mentioning great personalities, which helped making our life better, or at least they tried. But if considering the meaning of "influential", dozens of so called "bad" people can not be avoid to be mentioned, because they had a huge influence on World events and on destiny of millions of Earth inhabitants.
In general, all 20th century noble prize winners could be considered the most influential thinkers because they are the ones who were able to push back the frontiers of knowledge in various aspects of life.
it would obviously be necessary to divide between influence at the national and regional or global level. Pope John Paul II was a great international figure, as were Pius XII, John XXIII and Paul VI. Also Ronald Reagan and Gorbachev, and other leaders from the United States and the Soviet Union. In relation to these "Cold War" leaders I do not mean that their influence has been positive, but that they had a global reach.
Other leaders could have been the most influential in their country, I can think of Perón in Argentina, even for many it could have been F.D. Roosevelt in the United States. Also in many cases the long dictatorships left traces in the history of many countries, Franco comes to mind in Spain, Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.
