While I was searching the the NMR structure for different compounds, I came across one spectra which confused me. It is a carbon NMR of ethanal. It has not mentioned the solvent system used for the analysis. As the compound contains two carbon the spectra should contain two peaks, but there is one extra peak at 129 ppm. It may be due to the solvent system but i don't the exact reason.
Its looks like benzene-d6 solvent - there is a TMS reference signal at 0 ppm
John C. Edwards is correct. The extra signal is almost certainly from C6D6. This solvent gives a signal at ca. 128 ppm from TMS reference in the 13C NMR spectrum, The signal is a 1:1:1 intensity triplet because D is a spin = 1 nucleus, and each carbon is coupled to one D. The one-bond 13C - Deuterium coupling constant is 24.3 Hz.
