I am developing a gas diffusion layer（ORR cathode）
One side of the diffusion layer is inert gas (containing trace oxygen), and the other side is (1M) KOH. I hoped that there will be high reactivity on the membrane (2O2+H2O+4E>4OH- Under fix DC voltage)
If i use carbon base to make diffusion layer，PT is the best catalyst specific to oxygon?Are there other catalyst options？

Thank you very much for your nice question. Actually Pt-based catalysts are the most efficient for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton exchange membrane fuel cells but the high cost of Pt is a remarkable problem for its widespread use. However, there are some Pt-Metal alloys which have been found effective in ORR. Please, have a look at the following review article.

Some trioxotriangulene derivatives (metal free compounds) exhibit efficiency to oxygen reduction reaction. Some carbon based materials (especially nanomaterials) doped with heteroatoms like nitrogen, boron sulfur etc. have also been found effective in ORR. Please find the article.

I agree with Shafikul Islam's answer. Just I would like to add some points based on our work in the lab. Some transition metals like Ni and Co are doped to carbon nanofiber or carbon nanotube. Like so, they can approach the behavior of Pt-based electrodes for the ORR. Also, transition metal-based rGO showed good behavior as an ORR catalyst in both ex-situ and in-situ experiments.
