I think i have to get the CD or the book. My problem is publication, sending article to USA, UK, Germany or Japan, .. should require long research for terms used in these countries. Even more, a reviewer may have his own terms. Dental associations in different countries should look at that very seriously. Not only for publication but also for education purposes. I should also address this question to members of the International association of dental research.

Try Ten Cate's Oral histology book. Part of terminology you mentioned is explained to a very high and accompanied with lots of illustrations. As inner and outer epithelium are derived from the oral epithelium, that explains partly the many names. In terms of article writing -any publisher will correct you to his terms or ask for meaning, so just write and hope for the best..

I gess this is currently the only avealable choice . I tend to think that outer is more than apropiate than external. And enamel is more appropiate than dental. I think there is no tooth development without enamel organ thougth some teeth may be enamel less ( Fischer 1981) thus dental epithelium remains valide.

I feel, so long as the message is conveyed accurately, using 2-3 terms interchangeably should not matter much. There is a more important issue to deal with regarding terminology i.e misnomers. That means the term given to a particular disease or condition does not scientifically represent the actual scene. For e.g. epulis fissuratum - which is a fibrotic enlargement from the vestibular mucosa due to denture irritation. Now first of all 'epulis' term is referred to any localized enlargement of the gingiva and not vestibular mucosa. And in edentulous patient, there is no gingiva as such, its alveolar mucosa - so a more apt term could be 'vestibulum fissuratum'.
