Hi,

there is divergent information to the degree of acceptance of systematic reviews and meta-analysis as part of a PhD/Promotion in Germany and Europe-wide (e.g. DOI 10.1186/s13643-017-0653-x). Currently, together with my colleagues we are reading legal documents for PhD thesis of all 39 medical faculties in Germany. In most cases, requirements for thesis (monography or cumulative ones) are not defined but from personal experiences we hear that there are different rates of acceptance.

I would like to get personal feedback whether a systematic review with or without a meta-analysis is accepted at a medical faculty and if not what are the reasons for not accepting them.

If you feel comfortable I would like to have a discussion here, but I also provide here a short form if someone want to contribute anonymously:

We are looking currently at German medical faculties. Information by foreign students are of course welcome as well. Also on how this is managed in the rest of the world.

Looking forward to some feedback.
