Information about the pathogenicity, e.g. the percentage of seriously ill (hospitalized) patients of the human beings tested positive for the Omicron variant, is essential to assess the “danger“ for our health care systems and societies resulting from the highly virulent Omicron variant. However, scientifically valid information seems to be rare and hard to obtain.
The confirmed death toll due to the Omicron variant is now 17 in the UK.

In a study of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals during the 4 waves, in the Omicron variant wave, of the total hospitalized patient, 180 (18.5%) needed ICU admission with 27 deaths (2.7%). This is significantly less than previous waves of COVID-19.
