I have synthesized Au-polypyrrole composite films using electrochemical route and studied the effect of gamma irradiation on structural and morphological properties. The average crystalline size of Au particles calculated from (111) peak increases with increase in gamma dose. Whereas, SEM shows aggregation of Au particles and slight elongation after irradiation. I am not getting how to explain these behavior in mechanistic point of view after gamma irradiation. Could you please provide me a solution for the same?
Please try to find out what happens to the polypyrrole after irradiation. One of the effects is to produce free radicals. Polypyrrole may be already having free radicals. in that case free radical density my get reduced due to cross linking of the polymer. In such a case, polymer-metal interaction gets reduced and agglomeration can take place. another possibility is the degradation of the polymer due to irradiation. If polymer degrades, again polymer-metal interaction gets affected and it affects the morphology of the film. We had shown that polymer-metal interaction is very important in such films. You may look in to google scholar and among our [publications, you can come across works related to metal particulates in polymer matrix produced by evaporation of silver on to softened PS substrates. Dear Vijay. You must also know that the gamma irradiation change the structure of materials and in some cases phase transition could happen. I agree with Mr Pattabi completely. Moreover, XRD and SEM most of times dont say same grain size. Have a look to this nanocomposite :

It is not clear why you are interested in studying the effect of gamma radiation. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that doing this will cause change in both morphology and structure of the PPy-Au composite. To get a clearer picture, I suggest you investigate and compare morphology and structure of : (a) PPy film only with and without radiation; and (b) PPy-Au composite with and without radiation. The influence of Py and AuNP concentrations may also need some consideration.

Have you tried to coat the metal substrate with PANI using electroplating ? I tried too much however the adhesion of PANI is poor. And what strategies have you used to improve the adhesion of ppy on metal ? If you have experience I'll be happy to share with me.

We have used platinum and conducting Indium Tin Oxide substrates for electrochemical deposition. We have got good adhesivity and better surface morphologies on platinum substrate. Moreover, the parameters such as monomer and dopant concentration, applied current density and the time deposition have strong influence on the nature of the polymerization process.
