I have synthesized Au-polypyrrole composite films using electrochemical route and studied the effect of gamma irradiation at various dose level varying from 500-1500 kGy on the structural and morphological properties. The average crystalline size of the Au particles calculated from (111) peak increases with increase in gamma dose. Why the grain size varies? Can anyone provide me a reasonable explanation or hypothesis for the same? I have tried many possibilities but am unable to find out exact reasoning for the same

Being a keen observer but never being associated with NP research, it has already been reported in the literature that there is neither any change of size nor any increase of surface defects by gamma radiations on PURE Au NP up to10kR.Of course, the SPR enhances probably due to CT.
Since you have ,in away, impregnated Au NP on a conductive biomaterial (PPy) , the polymer matrix results in a nano composite material with RADIATION SHIELDING PROPERTY which MIGHT HAVE caused STRUCTURAL and MORPHOLOGICAL changes in the matrix [ (PPy) layers] and therby have increased the SURFACE DEFECTS on Au NP to result in an infinitesimal small elongation of Au NP
