It is the “appropriateness of the simplifications” introduced at the conceptual / mathematical modelling stages that will essentially govern the QUALITY of the information generated from the respective numerical models.
Given this context,
Do we require a sound numerical modelling skill in order to make the right choices/assumptions associated with the actual complex conceptual/mathematical modelling?
OR
Do we require a sound conceptual/mathematical modelling skills that may however be solved either with the simplified/complex numerical model?
Sound mathematics would guide us in making or forming accurate numeric models; but, a deep understanding of the underlying physics would dictacte what approximations are allowed in our numeric models, furthermore, what equations of state are necessary to capture the primary forces involved.
generally speaking, we use numerical solutions because there is not an analytical solution of complex models..
