Government of different countries has different priority as per the need of the country. I believe, if health system of the country is strong/ good, automatically wealth will follow. What are your opinions…
We cannot comment on the priorities of a particular government. Priorities depends on the needs and requirements of the state.
In India, our newly elected honourable PM Mr Narendra Modi made it a priority. (Education, Health, Water. Energy & roads will be priority) Because we need it.
But it may be a different story for Somalia, Sudan. Their priority is totally different.
In over twenty years of the National Health System of Brazil, the access problems remain , penalizing patients and particularly the most vulnerable sections of the population with endless queues, lack of professionals and medicines, with a trashed structure, difficulty appointments, among others.
There is a lack of money for health, but the management also lacking. Recent World Bank report highlights that it is possible to promote improvements in more committed and competent authorities. Among the bad examples cited in the document are the low efficiency of the hospital system, the turnover of beds, the fragility of the family health program
Obviously all governments should have health as a priority. However the problem is in its intent and implementation. Many a times in the process of prioritizing, it is also subsidized by the government and in the process lot of corruption and misuse gets into the system as in India. However there are good instances where it is well done in Canada, Australia and UK.
With good health productivity of the population increases and that will lead ultimately for the good of the country.
In the western european industrial nations, health politics doesnt have the highest priority, because we have systems like assurancies which help a lot. But we are aging, our life span is rising. So we can expect the typical illness and need for help of old people. In the moment we experience a shift of the costs for all these task to the young people and citizens, who have to pay for the old ones and we hear a lot of indignation about this redistribution.
Dear @Hanno, I agree with you, and it is right that health care for the old ones becomes expensive and must be paid by the young people; however, this is one of sectors that creates jobs for the young people.
Although, public health has always been on priority but I can't say 1st priority. You know politicians run governments so they set priorities according to their own mind. I fully agree with @Dhara Chavda that usually such priorities are not implemented and practiced fully due to various reasons.
Dear all, thanks for the valuable contribuations. Almost everyone in this discussion is supporting to strengthen healthcare/ health system in their countries in 1st priority. Some authors has maintion the role of general public in this particular issue which an important factor.
