I am currently conducting research on C.elegans and would like to ask for some advice regarding the E.coli culture growth.
I have prepared a streak plate on Tuesday (25/3/25) from another plate I prepared last Friday, which exhibits normal E.coli colony growth. However the 25/3/25 streak plate exhibited some strange colony growths in addition to the usual E.coli growth. I would like to ask if this is contamination by yeast or other contaminants, or if it is just a larger colony of E.coli
Similarly, I had prepared several LB agars spread with E.coli in 6cm plates. However, there seems to be a faint outline of growth. I would like to ask if this is normal or a sign of contamination?
My guess is that it is contamination because of the color but it is hard to be certain from a photograph through the bottom of a plate. Just restreak from a clean area of the plate.
The second plate (the spread plate) looks very odd to me but again it is hard to diagnose with any certainty. I would just repeat using a colony from a clean plate.
