Programs where teaching and learning involves some understanding of 'research' (e.g. natural sciences, health sciences, social sciences) generally teach introductory statistics courses to their students before they cover research dissemination and critical appraisal.

My question is: Do people think statistics (and research methods in general) sink in better contextualized in terms of research critical appraisal, or should we continue to teach statistics before students are exposed to their disciplines' research (and keep getting the "WHY DO WE HAVE TO LEARN STATISTICS?" question, and the "IF ONLY I HAD LISTENED DURING STATS101" statement).

I would like to hear views from both researchers and statisticians on this.
