in the plain strain state definition, the Z-direction has stress ,but no strain. is it possible a direction have stress but no strain?
likewise, for the plane stress state, there has strain ,but no stress,is it possible?
Why austempered can have higher toughness than quenched and tempered in steel , though both have same hardness? (ASM Metals Handbook,Vol. 4 ). Thank you.
