What’s the Griffith crack length in high-carbon martensite or plate martensite?In quench martensite ,there is no carbide which need tempering to produce carbide precipitation, then what’s the crack origin? Thank you very much.
Formation of microcracks in plate martensite is attributed to the morphology of the plates (i.e. needle-shaped plates). Also, volume fraction and length of martensitic plates aggravate microcracking. You will find the answer of your question in the papers below:
