I'm trying to do overset meshing in Planar Motion Mechanism (PMM) test in Star CCM+. while doing this I'm facing the issue that overset domain is moving outside from the overlap region.
Based on your current simulation strategy, the refined area of the static domain should cover the trajectory of the ship motion, with the same grid resolution of the overset domain.
I think this problem is about overset mesh interface. You should check the interface options and transport of information between cells by creating a scene for active-inactive-acceptor cells. Make sure that Overset-Overset and Overset-Background interfaces have been created.
I guess Deniz is right. Seemingly your problem is generated by the way the interfaces were set. Please keep in mind that if you use a second order accurate numerical scheme, the size of the overlapping domain needs to be at least or four cells. This is crucially important for the communication between the component meshes.
Hello, in this case, you can assign a new motion of rotation and translation to the static background field, where the velocity of the x and y-axis(assume you are using z-axis as vertical axis) and angular velocity can be attained by adding reports of ship DFBI speed. After this, you shall find the background field is following the ship and the overset zone will always be in the refined zone. This method should have no influence on the results as far as I have tested.
