In this page, an example simulating Rician and Rayleigh fading in parallel is given. I knew that Rician fading simulates both line of sight and none light of sight components, so why do we need to simulate it in parallel with Rayleigh fading?
I've been retired, now, for 17 years, but back in the day I used to write my own simulations. (Actually, my grad students did the code writing, ... in FORTRAN OR C.) As I remember, Rician applies to channels where there is a colored additive noise present, whereas Rayleigh applies to a direct effect on the amplitude of the signal itself, without regard to multipath transmission..
As it is written in your reference: "The Rician Fading Channel block implements a baseband simulation of a Rician fading propagation channel. This block is useful for modeling mobile wireless communication systems when the transmitted signal can travel to the receiver along a dominant line-of-sight or direct path. If the signal can travel along a line-of-sight path and also along other fading paths, then you can use this block in parallel with the Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channel block. For details about fading channels, see the works listed in References.", the Rician model is used to model the direct path and the Rayleigh model for the reflected pathes.
