We should first teach critical and strategic thinking to our students. They should ask important questions that are answerable with the scientific method. Then, new techniques will be at the service of the question/hypothesis testing.

I would add that it is important to teach students that perseverance is very important. Success is the result of a long series of trials and error. One have to learn from their own failure and rebound.
