Still in this modern world, data sharing by scientists in the same field are not in practice. Most of the scientists hesitate to share their data with others for many reasons. But, data sharing has some positive points also in the spectrum of scientific progress. Give your valuable opinion.

I think if some one implemented his ideas on a data set he could share it with others. I also certainly agree with Mr. Christopoulos.
It is a give and take situation. Some experiments or data collection are very expensive to obtain (GC-MS systems, ...) and application specific, so I dont think anyone is going to share it with others. What you can ask instead is some kind of proposal for joint research or collaborative work with scientists in the same field This can work and be sustained..
I believe we should give priority to data sharing in order to escalate scientific progress, especially the tacit knowledge, which is difficult to transfer to another colleague by means of writing it down or verbalizing it.
Yes, Especially secondary data from Institutions such as UN is highly valuable for estimations and generalizations for economic impacts on Macro scale.

Knowledge sharing is very essential in escalating scientific progress.
Scientific research today typically yields enormous volumes of information, with individual projects easily able to generate gigabytes or terabytes of data. The problem for the scientific community is that the vast majority of this information never makes it into published research which tends, by necessity, to be limited to topline conclusions or summaries of the key findings. The raw data – including the data from hundreds of unsuccessful experiments – is left out, and is lost to the scientific community, and future researchers.
One of the aims of the open science data movement is to eradicate these scientific blind spots by encouraging the sharing of research data using existing web-based technology, such as Flickr or blogs. Unfortunately, recent research by the Web Science and Digital Libraries Research Group found that 10% of the artefacts they were tracking vanished – in the space of a year. That loss rate is unacceptable for such valuable archival information.
