most of the journals takes more than six months to an year or even more to publish an articles.. some articles loose their relevance in such a long perio. Should the time taken by a journal to publish an article after submission be regulated?
It's a real problem for author. Many journals take along time to publish article that can influence on the authors activity or/and concentration... journal should review this step of publication
This is very painful to wait for a publication even more than one year especially for the students who are wait long time as it their degree requirement. But some good journal publish within two months for a issue. The editor of the journals should follow the time frame carefully. They should care about the valuable time of authors.
You can reduce the publication lag considering the periodicity of journals. Please note that the “publication lag” of a weekly or monthly journal is always shorter than that of a quarterly or bi-annual journal. Whatever is the periodicity, possible delays due to peer reviewing and editing is almost similar. The publication lag of a monthly including the time for editorial review usually ranges from 4-7 months. You can add an extra 3 or 6 months, if it is a quarterly or bi-annual as the case may be. Most reputed journals publish date of receipt and date of acceptance of publications. If that is the case, you can easily find out the average time they take for getting a paper in print form. If the average delay is more than one year, better to avoid such journals.
Looking back on the last 40 years, in former times the one-year waiting period was by no means unusual among the leading journals in my field: the reviewing process endured at least a quarter of a year. The tendency that the single issues are often grouped by topics sometimes makes the waiting time particularly lengthy. Today the online-competition perhaps could shorten the waiting time, but it's still mostly too long from the author's point of view.
In these days, processing of papers for possible publication or otherwise shouldnt take more than THREE MONTHS @most whatever be the RATING of the journal. What such journal needs to do is to have a bank of READY-TO WORK ASSESSORS.Delay can be frustrating. The suggested period of 3 months presupposes EXCELLENT VETTING.
As a researchers we all doing the reviews for many manuscripts from different journals. In this regard, my suggestion is to perform the review process within stipulated time and respond to the editor of the journal in timely manner. This will reduce the publication time of the paper.
I am also agree with the answer added by Ashok sir. If the review process is done as per the allotted time specified by editor of the journal, then the time taken for journal publishing is definitely reduced. One important thing is, all reviewers are reviewing the articles volunteerly.
