Searching for provincial and/or government regulations regarding mental health facilities, I found that not many apply to privately operated mental health clinics. What is your opinion on this? How do you think these regulations affect client care?
I am a little surprised that this is the case in Canada. In the UK private mental health facilities must be inspected by the Care Quality Commission to exactly the same framework as the public providers. Additionally many statutory and other controls enforced by municipalities and health care commissioners are the same. This has many benefits for the public and provides a flat playing field. Whilst it seems from the national data that CQC quality frameworks have improved the quality of provision I am not sure whether than analysis has been done for the private sector alone. However, in principle I certainly would say a flat playing field is the right approach for public protection and the proper and fair operation of a mixed market.
