Hi, dear community,
I am going to homogenize bacteria with glass beads (0.1 mm), but I cannot find any documented recommendation from the manufacturer regarding the amount of beads (mg) to use for a given amount of sample for homogenization. Something like...for 1 mg sample, use 1mg beads.
Any recommendations/suggestions?

well, I think it depends on the concentration of beads compared to the concentration of bacteria. 1mg of beads (much heavier than bacteria) and 1mg of bacteria will cause to have something like 1 bead for maybe 100 000 bacteria (guessing), so if you want to have the same number of bacteria and beads, there must be much more (by weight) of the beads comparing to the weight of bacteria in your sample. It all depends on the concentration and the ratio of weights. I hope this helps a bit.
