Many times when a complex geometry is meshed in Ansys I am not able to get every element above a certain quality (as shown from the mesh metric data). Will such a model give an accurate result. Should the meshes refined more and more so that every element is above certain threshold quality
It depends on what you are looking for. For accurate results in a local area, you usually need good quality mesh in the neigborhood of that area. Otherwise, it is better to have uniform quality mesh. A good practice is to conduct a convergence study of the results of your interet to with respect to the number/quality of mesh you uses.
Depends on your shape quality type.. Are you using min/max edge length ratios? I always shoot for a threshold of 20 (i.e., max edge length no more than 2x the min edge length).
The element quality is depends on your model shape and you consider aspect ratio also.Workbench Mechanical 16.0 has a new feature for reviewing element quality at the Mesh branch, in order to review the consequences of meshing controls prior to solving a model.
