With beginning researchers, a lot of students need a mentor or guidance in publishing publications. An instructor who has academic research experience is able to share their personal stories and experiences to better help their students in this manner.

However, an instructor in academic writing who has never published an article or publication during their career yet teaches students how to do this is like a paradox. How can the instructor most effectively help his or her students when the instructor has never gone through a peer review process, gone through the experience of revising and submitting articles that were accepted into a legitimate research journal, or matching his or her research to the standards and aims of a journal? Although one's academic writing may be good, the professor will lack further insight in regards to helping students use their academic writing to achieve success in publishing their research.
