Dear Professionals,

While reading a research paper I am observing some authors are referring ideas from some books and some authors are directly referring sentences and they are citing all those in the reference section.

Now, my question is if I want to refer it in my study should I read the entire book or can I take references and cite it in the reference section of my study. If I am citing something from any source and giving the source details in the reference section what does it mean?

Does it mean that I have read the book/paper cited in the reference section completely? or what?

Kindly share your views and your valuable views are highly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Regards
